At 3-5 and with their playoff hopes still barely flickering–with just an 8% chance of landing in the postseason, according to PlayoffStatus.com –the Cowboys are badly in need of a turnaround. Alas, with star quarterback Dak Prescott on injured reserve and with star receiver CeeDee Lamb banged up, too, that turnaround feels light years away.
No doubt, that has worn on coach Mike McCarthy. It showed in Sunday’s 27-21 loss to the Falcons, which saw McCarthy explode on the sidelines after the team failed to convert on a fourth-and-1 situation in Atlanta territory early in the second quarter. A handoff on an end-around to CeeDee Lamb wound up losing three yards.
Six plays later, Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins hit Darnell Mooney for a 36-yard touchdown that put Atlanta ahead, 14-3. And McCarthy took it out on the sideline on his tablet, smashing it to the ground…
