Major winter storm Wednesday night through Friday

The low-pressure system associated with this winter storm made its way to the four corners last night. This low will track south today to southeast Arizona. Thursday and through Friday this low pressure will move into southwest New Mexico.

The snow and rain brought by this low began this morning. A band of snow follows the circulation of the low. This band stretches from the Gila Wilderness up through the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Rain follows the outside edge of this snow. The storm will begin to ramp up later tonight.

From Wednesday night through Friday, this storm will bring heavy snowfall to New Mexico. The largest impacts will be in northeast New Mexico. 35″+ of snow is expected in certain locations across the northeast. Strong wind gusts will also play a role in this storm. 30-40 mph wind gusts in northeast New Mexico will assist in worsening conditions and forming snow drifts.
