WALKER, Mich. (WOOD) — The city of Walker broke ground on its new library Wednesday, which is set to be bigger than the old one and provide more resources.
The project is a result of community feedback over the last few years.
“We’d outgrown our library many years ago and we started, before the pandemic hit, we started the process of a lot of community input. We had feedback and gathering sessions bringing in their needs and wants that they wanted to see and something new,” said Walker Mayor Gary Carey. “The one thing we just kept coming back to is we knew we had outgrown what was a functional library and community center … for a growing city of our size.”

The new library and community center, which is set to be 20,000 square feet, will be physically connected to the old 8,000-square-foot library by a covered walkway.
