LAKE MACBRIDE, Iowa (KCRG) – Eastern Iowans enjoyed brilliant yellow, vivid red, and deep purple leaves at the end of October. Lake Macbride looked like a painting this fall, with brightly colored leaves rustling as a breeze pulled them from the branches.

“This year was actually really good for the purples and the reds. If we have, basically, clear sunny days and cool nights, that really helps to promote the pigment called anthocyanin, which gives us those purples and reds.” Mark Vitosh, a District Forester with the Iowa DNR, explained.

Vitosh has noticed that this year it’s taking longer for leaves to glide from the trees…
