Denver sweeps E-B-F, claims first girls state title in school history

CORALVILLE — The dream became reality.

On Thursday, Denver beat Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont 3-0 (25-16, 25-23, 25-20) to claim the 2024 IGHSAU Class 2A volleyball title — the first girls’ state championship in any sport in school history.

Denver head coach Jamie Johnson described the win as an “out-of-body experience” after five consecutive trips to the state tournament.

“I have girls that cannot stop crying,” Johnson said. “I have tears myself. We just worked so hard for this and dreamed about this for so long … Finally getting there just feels amazing…
