Historically, the Hopi Nation has strategically allocated funds toward lobbying efforts, particularly in the realms of casinos and gambling. According to data from OpenSecrets, the Hopi Nation’s spending in this area has remained consistent in recent years, reflecting the current administration’s stance on this topic. Although spending increased from a low in 2014, the over level seems to correspond to the traditional values of the Hopi people, albeit, not all member are opposed to casinos and gambling.
The use of lobbying dollars is vital in ensuring that Native American tribes, including the Hopi Nation, have a voice in federal and state legislative processes. In comparison, the Navajo Nation is on track to make 2024 a record for lobbying on casinos and gambling, with an estimated $480,000.
