CHARLESTON, WV (WVNS) — WASHINGTON – A former corrections officer from the Southern Regional Jail in Beaver, West Virginia, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Charleston on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, for his role in an assault that resulted in the death of 37-year-old Quantez Burks of Beckley, who died at the jail on March 1, 2022, after being incarcerated for less than 24 hours as a pre-trial detainee.
Mark Holdren pleaded guilty to conspiring with other officers to violate Burks’ civil rights, which resulted in Burks’ death.
