Texas Man Arrested for Plotting ISIS-Inspired Terror Attack

A 28-year-old Houston man, Anas Said, is in FBI custody after allegedly plotting a terrorist attack on U.S. soil in support of ISIS.

Said was arrested at his apartment complex last week. According to FBI Special Agent Douglas Williams, Said admitted to planning an attack on local military recruiting centers, providing shelter to ISIS operatives, and attempting to create ISIS propaganda.

Said has been on the FBI’s radar since 2017 for purchasing stickers supporting ISIS. Despite FBI interviews in 2018, he allegedly continued to support ISIS and spread its ideology.

Facebook records and encrypted messaging applications revealed Said’s ongoing efforts to glorify ISIS violence. His family expressed concerns, and FBI agents found evidence on his electronic devices of his propaganda activities.

Said faces charges of attempting to provide material support to a terrorist group. A detention hearing is scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
