Two suspects in the 2023 murder of Phoenix man Jake Kelly have pleaded guilty to obstructing the investigation. Cory Young and Shannon Higgins, who were roommates of the victim, admitted to hindering law enforcement after Kelly’s death. Young’s plea deal was finalized this week, with sentencing scheduled for January, while Higgins is still waiting for her sentencing.
According to FOX 10 Phoenix, Kelly was discovered brutally beaten in his driveway in August 2023 and succumbed to his devastating injuries after a harrowing period of deterioration. His mother, Jan Turner, shared in a FOX 10 interview that her son faced severe, disfiguring trauma and multiple surgeries, leading her to eventually make an impossible decision regarding his care. Turner is now resolutely working to ensure a substantial prison sentence for those involved.
The case has gained more attention as it’s revealed that Kelly’s roommates delayed seeking medical help after his assault. Court records show they waited several hours before getting him care.
