Moped rider remembered as traffic fatalities surpass 40 on Oahu this year

HONOLULU (Island News) — A memorial is in place where a moped rider lost his life this week. The number of traffic fatalities on Oahu has now climbed above 40.

The Medical Examiner confirmed Friday, 30-year-old Austin Makaehu died after a traffic collision on Wednesday night on Masarrat Avenue near Kalakaua in the Waikiki area.

He was reportedly not wearing a helmet and alcohol appeared to be a contributing factor…
