Texas has a ton of professional and college sports teams. For a state as big as Texas, that’s to be expected. But the quality of the sports doesn’t suffer from having so many teams in the state either. Texas teams are well regarded for winning National Championships in college sports, and World Championships in pro sports.
Cities like Austin and Waco are college sports hubs, with University of Texas being a powerhouse across multiple sports, and Baylor winning multiple National Championships in both Men’s and Women’s Basketball. Not to mention schools like TCU, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and Houston all having various levels of national success over the years.
In professional sports, you have multiple Texas cities with pro teams. You even have Texas cities that have multiple pro teams in them. Like Houston, which is home to the NFL’s Texans, NBA’s Rockets, the MLS Dynamo, and MLB’s Astros. Then you have San Antonio, home to the 5-time NBA Champion Spurs.
Then, there’s Dallas (or at least the metroplex). Home to the world-renowned Dallas Cowboys, the recent World Series Champion Texas Rangers, 2011 NBA Champion Dallas Mavericks, and 1999 Stanley Cup Champion Dallas Stars. There are various other pro teams in Dallas too, the WNBA and MLS have teams there.
With all of this sports success in the state, its no wonder Texas has a city on the new list of the Best Sports Cities in America …
