End of an era: Staten Island cop retires with emotional farewell after 42 years with NYPD

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Sergeant Special Assignment Michael Peruggia, who rose to become number one in seniority in the New York Police Department, ended his 42-year career with an honorary walkout at the 121st Precinct stationhouse in Graniteville this past week.

The stationhouse was packed with friends, family, former co-workers, and active duty officers. Interim Police Commissioner Thomas Donlon and First Deputy Commissioner Tania Kinsella were joined by top brass from Staten Island.
