Notre Dame Notebook: Marcus Freeman Talks Senior Day Win, Improvement, Defensive Success, Xavier Watts

Notre Dame handled the Virginia Cavaliers this weekend to improve to 9-1 on the season. This was Marcus Freeman ‘s third stint leading his team through the emotions of Senior Day, and much like the festivities of Senior Day, this game mirrored the roller coaster of emotions felt. Two long touchdowns were called back, the defense held another offense to under 200 passing yards, Riley Leonard had one of his best days through the air on paper, and Jeremiyah Love showcased once again why he is one of the most explosive running backs in all of college football.

Despite a slow start offensively and some drive killing penalties, Notre Dame rattled off 28 unanswered points in the first half including a 21 point second quarter.

“It was a great win, great team victory. It’s what we aspire to do all week for our seniors on senior night,” Freeman noted after their 21 point victory. “This obviously isn’t the end of our season, but this was the night we said was going to be senior night, and our last guaranteed opportunity for our seniors to play in this stadium.”…
