Volunteers clear debris for park honoring fallen firefighter in Sterling House Explosion

STERLING, Va. (7News) — Nine months after a Sterling House explosion left one firefighter dead and several others injured, the community is coming together to create a memorial park in their honor.

On the lot in Seneca Ridge where the house used to stand, volunteers met up on Saturday to clear the remaining bits of debris and prepare the space for a park.

According to the organizer and HOA president Steve Honard, seven volunteers removed hundreds of pieces of broken glass, and the final pieces of clothing and fiberglass from the nearby trees…
