CLACKAMAS COUNTY, OR – Authorities in Clackamas County, Oregon have confirmed the death of James Robert MacDonald, a 33-year-old father of four, whose body was discovered days after he went missing during a hike in Mt. Hood National Forest. MacDonald, described as an experienced hiker, tragically lacked the proper gear to face the cold overnight conditions.

A Search That Ended in Heartbreak

MacDonald’s family reported him missing around 7:30 p.m. last Wednesday after he failed to return from a planned day hike near the Paradise Park Trail in Mt. Hood National Forest. The last contact with him was at 2 p.m. that afternoon. Family members told authorities he had a strong love for hiking but was not equipped for subfreezing temperatures.

In response, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office launched what it described as an “extensive search and rescue operation” in the area. On Friday morning, a search team from Portland Mountain Rescue located MacDonald’s body near the Hidden Lake Trail, bringing the desperate search to a tragic close.
