Expect a soggy Sunday in Portland, kicking off a week of valley rain, initially heavy snow in the Cascades, then a potential atmospheric river event Tuesday through Friday with the possibility of flooding, landslides and strong winds.
Sunday will begin with a warm front moving inland, with temperatures rising to about 50 degrees by 10 a.m., then falling to the mid-forties as a cold front brings up the rear, according to the National Weather Service. Rainfall of up to a half inch is expected in Portland, with heavy mountain snow above 2000 feet this afternoon and continuing into Monday.
Forecasters have issued a winter storm warning for the Cascades. Early precipitation will fall as rain before snow levels plummet to 3000 to 4000 feet in the late afternoon then 2000 feet overnight.
