The UCLA Women’s Volleyball team hosted the University of Washington on Wednesday and the University of Wisconsin on Saturday, earning a sweep of Washington and losing to #6 ranked Wisconsin 3-1. After the weekend, the Bruins’ record is now 12-13 overall and 6-10 in Big Ten play. The Bruins head to the midwest this week to at Indiana on Friday and at Illinois on Saturday.
Against Washington, both Audrey Pak (35 assists/11 digs) and Grayce Olson (12 kills/10 digs) notched double-doubles. Junior Cheridyn Leverette led the Bruins with 13 kills and freshman Kiki Horne chipped in with 10. With the 25-23, 25-23, 25-20 sweep, the Bruins completed the season sweep of Washington, having defeated them in 4 sets last month in Seattle.
On Saturday night against Wisconsin, the Bruins were facing a much larger team, including 6’9″ senior All-American Anna Smrek and 6’7″ junior Carter Booth, who transferred from Minnesota. The Bruins played well in the first set and led for much of the set, winning 25-20, clinched by an ace by freshman Kate Duffey. The Badgers found their groove in the following 3 sets, winning easily 25-15, 25-22, 25-15. Cheridyn Leverette led the Bruins with 20 kills on .368 hitting. No other Bruin reached double figures in kills, with Anna Dodson and Kiki Horne notching 8 kills each to tie for 2nd on the team. The Badgers had 3 players in double figures, with Sarah Franklin leading with 19, Anna Smrek adding 16 on .609 hitting, and Julia Orzol with 10.
