SACRAMENTO – Governor Gavin Newsom has officially proclaimed November 17-23, 2024, as “Apprenticeship Week” in California, celebrating the 10th anniversary of National Apprenticeship Week. This recognition highlights the critical role apprenticeships play in building a skilled workforce and a thriving economy.
Since 2018, over 190,000 Californians have completed state-registered apprenticeship programs, with a goal of reaching 500,000 by 2029. The state has allocated more than $221 million this fiscal year to expand apprenticeships, including $41.7 million for in-demand fields like healthcare and IT.
Efforts like the California Opportunity Youth Apprenticeship (COYA) and Equal Representation in Construction Apprenticeship grants are breaking barriers, especially for underserved populations. Governor Newsom encourages all Californians to explore the transformative potential of apprenticeships in creating equitable career pathways.
