NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — All lanes are back open on Interstate 64 West in Newport News, following a deadly early-morning crash involving a tractor-trailer.
The crash occurred by Exit 247 near Lee Hall around 3 a.m. According to Virginia State Police (VSP), the driver of a 2013 Hyundai Elantra was going westbound on I-64, ran off the roadway, and struck a 2023 International tractor-trailer that was stopped on the shoulder.
VSP said the driver of the Hyundai, 22-year-old Denzel Owuraku Quaicoo of Woodbridge, Virginia, died on impact. A female passenger was entrapped inside the vehicle, and emergency responders flew her to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with life-threatening injuries…
