Over a month and a half since Tropical Storm Helene ravaged the Upstate, counties are growing closer to completing cleanup, while the Federal Emergency Management Agency disaster relief efforts will continue for several more weeks.
According to Greenville County spokesperson Bob Mihalic, the county’s debris contractor has collected over 330,000 cubic yards of debris. More than 250,000 cubic yards of debris has been picked up in Spartanburg County, said Scottie Kay Blackwell, the county’s spokesperson.
On average, Spartanburg County collects 10,000 cubic yards of debris a day, while Greenville collects 7,000 yards a day. Both counties expect over a million cubic yards of debris when pick-ups are completed.
