A series of violent incidents on W44th Street in Hell’s Kitchen has residents demanding immediate action to improve safety — with a community leader speaking out following two attacks in the span of one week, describing the situation as “unacceptable.”
In the early hours of Sunday morning, a 38-year-old woman was accosted by an intruder in the hallway of her apartment building. According to police, the man followed the woman into her building and demanded cash before stealing her purse, cell phone and bank cards. He then performed a lewd act before fleeing the scene. The attack occurred on W44th Street between 9/10th Avenues.
Police say the victim was not physically injured. The male suspect is described as slim built, with a medium complexion, wearing a black Nike hat, black jacket with fur around the hood, blue jeans and black-and-white sneakers.
This follows an assault last Saturday evening , where an elderly couple — a 75-year-old attorney and his 70-year-old partner — were violently attacked just a few doors away. The assailant attempted to steal the woman’s purse and then assaulted the man, leaving him with facial injuries…
