$5.1 million grant issued to address physician shortages in the Inland Empire

Officials announced Monday that more than $5 million in grant funding has been allotted to an Inland Empire health system to address physician shortages.

In a statement issued by U.S. Rep. Pete Aguilar (D-San Bernardino) on Monday, his office announced that the funding will benefit the SAC Health System’s Teaching Health Center Graduate Medical Education Family Medicine, Pediatrics and Psychology programs.

The support enables medical residents in many fields to enhance their skills in delivering high quality care, especially within underserved communities.

“Ensuring that underserved and rural communities in the Inland Empire have equal access to high quality affordable health care is crucial to the health and well being of our community,” Rep. Aguilar said. “This grant will help bolster SAC Health System as they work to improve the shortage of physicians in our community, helping to close the gap in health care access and address longstanding disparities.”…
