At just 18 years old, Joseph “Joey” Cosenza III, a 2024 graduate of The Villages Charter School, is making history as the youngest commissioner ever elected in Fruitland Park. Cosenza took the oath of office on Thursday evening at Fruitland Park City Hall, succeeding long-time Commissioner John Gunter.

Cosenza, who moved to Fruitland Park in 2020, has always been fascinated by government and politics. “I like the city—it’s a small town, a good place to learn and give back,” he says.

A self-described political junkie, Cosenza saw this as an opportunity to begin his journey in public service…
