The Chicago Police Department has issued a community alert notifying residents of a series of armed robberies in the South Shore neighborhood, located within the 4th District. In these incidents, victims have been approached by armed individuals who demanded their personal belongings at gunpoint, mainly targeting wallets, purses, and mobile devices.
Details provided in the alert describe the suspected offenders as one to four African American males, between the ages of 15 and 25. Arming themselves, they usually display a firearm during the commission of these robberies while donning face masks and all black or dark clothing. The police have documented multiple incidents that occurred at various times of the day, including a robbery on October 20, 2024, at 3 p.m. on the 7800 block of S. Marquette, and two on October 29 on the 7800 block of S. Phillips at 11:50 a.m. and the 7800 block of S. Essex at 8:38 p.m. Additional robberies were reported on the 7800 block of S.
