A Delaware County man has been handed a significant prison sentence following an armed robbery at a Metro by T-Mobile store last year. Jason Donte Hayes, 26, will serve more than 11 years for the crime that took place in June 2022, according to U.S. Attorney Jacqueline C. Romero’s announcement cited by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Hayes posed as a customer initially, inquiring about a wireless headset before revealing his firearm and demanding money and goods from the staff at the Clifton Heights store. Not satisfied with just the heist, Hayes proceeded to bind the employee with duct tape in a back office, before fleeing with $452 and a headset. At the time of this incident, Hayes was already on probation for prior convictions of burglary and robbery, a detail shared by authorities.
Investigations led by Clifton Heights Police, aided by video surveillance footages from the area, pointed to Hayes, who was found and arrested outside his home, wearing the stolen headset. Upon his arrest, Hayes was found carrying not just the merchandise but also a loaded .45 caliber pistol with ammunition in his backpack.
