Finding the best place in America to retire is an extremely difficult decision. There are so many factors and priorities that vary from person to person, I’d argue that it’s hard to pick a “best” since that answer will be different for everyone. There is a new national best retirement places list that does include 2 Illinois places and 1 in Missouri, though.
I don’t doubt the reliability of the source, but I will debate their conclusions. US News and World Report is no doubt one of the more respected publications/sites. Their just issued 2025 best places to retire in the US list is also one of the more prestigious internet “best of” lists.
Out of the top 100, there are only 2 Illinois locations and only 1 in Missouri that get their recommendation.
- Chicago – #71 best place to retire
- Peoria – #88 best place to retire
- Kansas City – #91 best place to retire
Do I think there are certain types of retirees that would really enjoy all of those Illinois and Missouri places? Sure. Do I think a majority would be better off there than other options? NO WAY…
