Police: Second line shootings not related; 1 person of interest detained

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – The New Orleans Police Department continues to investigate two shootings along a second line parade route that happened Sunday, Nov. 17.

The first shooting happened around 3:38 p.m. in the 1800 block of Almonaster Avenue and a second shooting happened around 45 minutes later as the parade crossed the Almonaster Bridge. Police now say the shootings do not appear to be related.

In total, 13 people were shot, two fatally. A family member identified the deceased victims as 21-year-old Rasean Carter and his nephew, 19-year-old Malachi Jackson.
