Veteran launches Logan County Honor Guard to provide military funerals

RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. (WBKO) – For Rick McCormick, a veteran and “military brat” who grew up steeped in service, the idea of a veteran being laid to rest without proper military honors is unacceptable. That conviction led him to establish the Logan County Honor Guard, a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring veterans receive full military funeral honors, including a 21-gun salute, flag-folding and the playing of taps.

McCormick’s mission began after planning his own funeral arrangements.

“I went to a funeral home locally and made my final arrangements,” McCormick said. “My son, who works there, asked if I wanted a military funeral. When I said yes, he told me, ‘That doesn’t mean you’re going to get one.’ That didn’t sit well with me.”…
