ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — New Mexico is facing a pressing shortage of health care professionals according to the Blue Cross and Blue Shield chief medical officer, Dr. Latha Raja Shankar. Now, BCBSNM is stepping in to help ease the strain, announcing a significant investment of $500,000 to attract more physicians to the state and improve access to health care for its residents.
The investment will be used to cover a range of expenses for new physicians moving to New Mexico, including signing bonuses, moving costs, salary support, and loan repayment assistance. This funding will be administered through the New Mexico Medical Foundation, which has established a committee to evaluate and select the physicians who will get the grant.
The goal is to bring 10 new physicians to New Mexico.
