Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced movie producer, claims that the New York prison where he’s incarcerated is failing to provide him with proper medical care.
Weinstein’s attorney, Imran H. Ansari, filed a claim with the Office of the NYC Comptroller, alleging that the conditions at Rikers Island are exacerbating Weinstein’s numerous medical issues, including leukemia, diabetes, and coronary artery disease.
Weinstein’s claim states that the prison knows about his medical conditions but is not providing him with the standard of care he needs. He alleges that his physical and psychological health have deteriorated since his incarceration, and he is seeking at least $5 million in damages.
Ansari described Weinstein’s prison conditions as “deplorable” during a recent visit, claiming that he was covered in blood spatter, had not been provided with clean clothes or underwear, and was being treated “like an animal.”
