Arctic Blast Brings Snow and Cold to US

A wave of frigid Arctic air is gripping the US, bringing heavy lake-effect snow to several states and plunging temperatures in the South.

Winter alerts and lake-effect snow warnings are in place in Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York. As cold air crosses the Great Lakes, intense snow bands will blanket communities from Cleveland to Buffalo.

Sub-Freezing Temperatures in the South

The cold front is causing below-freezing temperatures as far south as Florida, with freeze alerts affecting over 13 million people in nine southern states.

Snowfall Forecast

Watertown, New York, is expecting 3 to 5 feet of snow, while a second band of heavy snow is forecast south of Buffalo, with Dunkirk likely to receive over 3 feet.

State of Emergency Declared

New York Governor Kathy Hochul has declared a state of emergency in western counties, anticipating hazardous conditions, road closures, and power outages.

Caution Urged in Erie County

Officials in Erie County, which includes Buffalo, are urging residents to stay home and avoid driving. Three to four feet of snow is expected in towns like Eden and Hamburg, while Buffalo will see a few inches.

Hazardous Driving Conditions

Whiteout conditions are expected in some areas, making driving extremely dangerous. Several roads, including part of Interstate 90, are already closed.

Buffalo Bills Game Impacted

Snowfall is expected to impact the Buffalo Bills game on Sunday night. Up to 30 inches of snow could fall at the stadium, making it challenging for fans to attend.
