Hannah Kobayashi Missing Persons Case Update
Surveillance footage from the U.S.-Mexico border shows Hannah Kobayashi crossing into Mexico on foot with luggage. Police believe she intentionally missed a connecting flight from Los Angeles to New York.
Following the discovery of surveillance footage, police have reclassified the case as a voluntary missing person. Kobayashi’s father tragically died by apparent suicide last week.
Police have released video and photos of Kobayashi at various locations in Los Angeles, including the LAX baggage claim and Union Station. She purchased a bus ticket to San Ysidro, where she crossed the border into Mexico.
Police have no evidence of trafficking or foul play. Kobayashi had expressed a desire to disconnect from modern technology before leaving Hawaii.
The LAPD’s investigation will not extend into Mexico. However, if Kobayashi returns to the U.S., law enforcement will be notified.
