20 years after her kidnapping in Syracuse she moves parole board to tears

SYRACUSE, N.Y — The man who abducted and sexually abused Brittany Fish of Syracuse in 2004 is going before the New York State Parole Board this month. Already, the panel has heard from Fish, whose married name is Brittany Taylor.

“I have got a slew of diagnoses because of you,” Taylor told the Parole Board when she gave testimony on November 15 in Syracuse. “I have got a list of prescriptions that I take daily because of you,” she said of Kevin Schaus, 51. Schaus is incarcerated at the Collins Correctional Facility, south of Buffalo. Schaus was sentenced to 20 years to life on kidnapping and sexual abuse charges. That 20 years is now up.

Speaking to the Parole Board, but tailoring her speech directly to Schaus, Taylor said, “You stole a part of me on April 24, 2004, and I turned that missing part of me into a hell-bent survivor.” Taylor called the members of the Parole Board panel in Syracuse “amazing, supportive and gentle people.” She says three of the five members of the panel were brought to tears during her victim impact testimony. “I knew my words were felt all the way down to their bones,” she wrote in a lengthy Facebook post documenting the testimony…
