On this day in weather history…SNOW!

On this day in weather history New Orleans had a snow day. Snow covered portions of Southeast Louisiana on December 11, 2008. Most of the snow fell along and to the north of Interstate 12 from east of Baton Rouge to Pearl River. It was quite the event! A total of two to six inches of snow fell with some spots in Tangipahoa Parish seeing up to eight inches. It caused many problems though. The weight of the snow caused roof damage, power outages and tree damage. It also caused many traffic headaches on the interstates. Schools, government offices and bridges were closed. The Southshore also got in on the action, reporting one to two inches of snow.
