Pritzker vows to follow law, protect asylum seekers and immigrants in state legally

CHICAGO — Gov. JB Pritzker on Wednesday fired back at comments made earlier this week by president-elect Trump’s “border czar” to make the city ground zero for a mass deportation effort, saying he’s willing to meet with incoming Trump administration officials but that he has a duty to protect asylum seekers and immigrants who are in the state legally.

His comments were a response to threats from the president-elect who has said he plans to round up undocumented immigrants and deport them by using the US military on domestic soil. Pritzker said the move would be unconstitutional and illegal.

“He does not have the authority to do the things he has talked about. Being a ‘border czar’ is not an official position,” Pritzker said…
