‘Not every airport has this technology’: Boise Airport remains operational amid fog

BOISE, Idaho — It’s travel season, and it’s fog season in the Treasure Valley. For those looking to escape the fog this holiday season – the Boise airport is still operating normally, even with low visibility.

It’s because of technology that was installed in 2015, called the Category Three Instrument Landing System. That technology allows pilots to land planes on the Boise Airport runway, even in low conditions.

“The Instrument Landing System allows those pilots to get closer to the runway before seeing the actual runway itself,” said Kevin Morris, aviation safety expert for Federal Aviation Administration…
