ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – The Mat-Su Borough School District has decided remote learning days are no longer an option for bad weather after discovering they might not count toward required classroom days.
John Notestine, a spokesperson for the district, said Tuesday via email that Mat-Su opted to cease remote days after communication from the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development Commissioner, Deena Bishop, was sent to superintendents.
Notestine quoted the communication to superintendents from Bishop on Dec. 7, saying “E-learning days should not be expected to count as school days for ‘brick-and-mortar’ schools.”…
