California is set to face a series of severe weather events starting Friday evening, with strong winds, coastal flooding, and high surf impacting multiple areas. Residents in San Francisco, Monterey Bay, and the Santa Cruz Mountains are advised to prepare for potentially hazardous conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, a High Wind Watch will go into effect from Friday night through Saturday afternoon. Coastal areas, including the Monterey Bay and Big Sur, are expected to see south winds of 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. These strong winds could topple trees, snap power lines, and lead to widespread power outages. Drivers, particularly those in high-profile vehicles, are urged to avoid unnecessary travel.

A Coastal Flood Advisory is also in place through Monday afternoon. High astronomical tides combined with heavy winds are likely to cause flooding along the San Francisco Bay and San Pablo Bay shorelines.
