Indiana’s Tasty Claim to Fame Shattered in U.S. Virgin Islands

In 2014, an Indiana restaurant broke the record for the World’s Largest Calzone. However, ten years later, a new grand champion has taken its place.

Calzones are one of my all-time favorite foods. They are simple, delicious, and fully customizable. There are a ton of great places here in the tri-state that serve up some fantastic calzones, but it’s safe to say none are as big as the one created by a restaurant in Middlebury, Indiana, back in 2014. It was made with cheese, pepperoni, and special sauce inside the dough. While likely delicious, it also broke a gigantic World Record.

Rulli’s Italian Restaurant’s World Record

That behemoth of a calzone weighed in at 212.7 pounds, measuring 23 feet 7 inches by 2 feet 4 inches. It was handmade by Rulli’s Italian Restaurant, which has been serving Elkhart County since 1987. At the time, it was the largest calzone ever made, securing a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records. However, in August of 2024, that calzone was dethroned by one much, much larger.

The World’s Largest Calzone Gets Even Bigger

Unfortunately for Rulli’s Italian Restaurant, the World’s Largest Calzone is now a record held by Café Amici and Sweet Hospitality VI, located in Charlotte Amalie, Saint Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. This giant pizza pocket weighed in at 468 lb 11 oz—over double the weight of the previous record holder. It was officially completed on August 11, 2024…
