CECIL COUNTY — County organizers partnered with gas station chain Sheetz helped facilitate deliveries of holiday wreathes to various cemeteries in Cecil County, including Rosebank and St. Mary Anne’s, on Wednesday morning to be used in Wreaths Across America across the county. Wreaths Across America is an annual tribute to our nation’s veterans, honoring those who served by placing a wreath on their graves around the holidays.
Julia Swoboda initiated the first Wreaths Across America event in Cecil County nine years ago at St. Mary Anne’s, after she attended the annual Arlington National Cemetery wreath ceremony in 2016 — where the initiative first began in 1992, and where nearly 400,000 veterans and their families are buried.
“After that, I was really inspired to come back to Cecil County and start our event,” Swoboda said. “I think anyone who’s done that [gone to Arlington’s ceremony] really understands the impact that makes on you and then just inspires you really to see what you can do in your community.”…
