City Contracts with Community Education Building to Manage Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP)

The agreement with the Department of Parks and Recreation will run through June 15, 2025

The City of Wilmington has entered into a contract with the Community Education Building (CEB) to manage the Department of Parks and Recreation’s Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). The CEB, is an authorized School Food Authority (SFA) approved to participate in USDA Child Nutrition programs. It replaces Whitson’s Culinary Group, whose contract expired on September 30, as the Department’s food nutrition vendor. The seven-month contact with the Community Education Building took effect November 18 and will continue through June 15, 2025.

“Representatives of the Community Education Building, in particular Chief Operating Officer Tamarra Morris, worked diligently with Parks and Recreation program staff to reach an agreement that significantly improves service to the communities that benefit from our Child and Adult Care Food Program,” said Parks and Recreation Deputy Director Melody Phillips. “Together with the CEB, we will not only be able to serve meals to more members of the community, but those meals will be fresher, healthier, and more varied as well. That’s a win for everyone.”

The Community Education Building first submitted a bid to the City to manage the CACFP last January, followed by a revised proposal in August. By contracting with the CEB, a Wilmington-based food provider, the Department of Parks and Recreation hopes to improve significantly the services offered to the community…
