DeLand man sentenced to over three years for firearm possession as a felon

ORLANDO, Florida ( MyFloridaNews.com )— Loveking Kitching, a 22-year-old from DeLand, has been sentenced to three years and five months in federal prison for possessing firearms and ammunition as a convicted felon. The sentence was handed down by Senior U.S. District Judge John Antoon II, who also ordered the forfeiture of the firearms and ammunition.

Kitching entered a guilty plea on August 21, 2024. According to court documents, he was involved in a shooting on May 13, 2023, while riding as a passenger in a car near a gas station in DeLand. Security footage captured him exiting the vehicle and entering the gas station’s convenience store with a loaded 9mm pistol. Law enforcement recovered the pistol and other evidence indicating Kitching exchanged gunfire with someone outside the car. During the incident, Kitching sustained gunshot wounds to his mouth and hand.

On December 12, 2023, Kitching led police on a vehicle chase after failing to stop for a traffic violation. The chase ended in an industrial park, where officers found his cellphone and a loaded .40 caliber pistol along the path. Kitching’s DNA and fingerprints were discovered on the weapon…
