99-year-old Mechanicsburg veteran shares stories from Battle of the Bulge 80 years later

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — The Battle of the Bulge was one of the deadliest battles of World War II with casualties on both sides of the battleground; the year-long fight played a significant role in ending the Nazi regime.

Army veteran and Mechanicsburg man Luther Dromgold served on the outskirts of the gruesome battle that killed 80,000 American soldiers. He shared his experience with CBS 21’s Fatima Moien to mark the anniversary of the battle, which began Dec. 16, 1944.

Dromgold is 99 years old, and while studying at Penn State for a short period, he was drafted for the war and sent off to Glasgow, Scotland, when he was 19…
