Sunday barn fires under investigation

TROY — Two abandoned barns were destroyed on an uninhabited property in Concord Township Sunday.

Dispatch received a report of a fire from neighbors of the effected property, located at 3420 Washington-Concord Road, at 12:09 p.m., on Sunday, Dec. 15. The property, owned by Ben R. Schmitmeyer, is being used for the land only. It also includes two other barns and a house; the fire did not spread to those structures.

No one was present at the time of the fire, said Troy Assistant Fire Chief of Operations Wade Dexter. The property had no active gas or electric utility services connected, he said. Although the cause of the fire is still under investigation, Dexter confirmed that it appears to be suspicious…
