A suspect wanted in connection with a fatal shooting at Fort Eisenhower was taken into custody after a vehicle pursuit that ended in Meriwether County, roughly three hours from the military base. According to the FOX 5 Atlanta report, the incident at the U.S. Army base located near Augusta occurred before 9 a.m. on Saturday and led to an “active shooter” alert and a lockdown of the base.
Following the shooting, that left one man dead, whose identity has yet to be disclosed, the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office was notified of the suspect’s potential route. As reported by AJC, deputies identified the vehicle traveling southbound on I-85 and made a calculated stop to apprehend the suspect who was seen disposing of a handgun from the vehicle’s passenger window.
During an executed traffic stop around the 29-mile marker, Meriwether County Sergeant Bradford and Deputy Presley arrested the suspect without further altercation, acquiring vital evidence in the process.
