South Barrington Man Pleads Guilty to Record $104 Million Sales Tax Evasion, Sentenced to Four Years

The Illinois Department of Revenue, in conjunction with Cook County officials, has successfully wrapped up a case against South Barrington resident Sam Cirrincione, 60, following a substantial sales tax investigation. The state’s announcement came earlier today. Cirrincione, faced with a Class 1 Felony of Continuing a Financial Crimes Enterprise, decided to plead guilty and received a four-year prison sentence as the court’s judgment came down.

During the investigation by the Bureau of Criminal Investigations of IDOR, which spanned several years, efforts unveiled Cirrincione’s underreported gross receipts of over $104 million, a record for sales tax evasion within Illinois, and as part of his plea, a significant payment of $10.5 million has already been funneled back to the state as restitution. IDOR Director David Harris seized the occasion to remind that tax evasion is an affront to law-abiding taxpayers, saying, “Those who evade paying their required taxes harm the great majority of taxpayers who pay what is owed and pay on time,” as reported by the State of Illinois…
