RICHMOND, Va. (WDBJ) – A new state government watchdog says she her office will prioritize an investigation of Red Onion State Prison in southwest Virginia.
State lawmakers have been looking into reports that several inmates have burned themselves. This week they questioned officials from the Virginia Department of Corrections during a hearing in Richmond.
The General Assembly passed and Governor Youngkin signed legislation creating the Department of Corrections Ombudsman.
