Athletes arrive at The Monument for Lakota Nation Invitational

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – Hundreds of young Lakota athletes arrived at The Monument Tuesday night ahead of the Lakota Nation Invitational. Each team got the “red carpet treatment,” walking together from outside the arena’s doors to their first dinner in town.

Several sports will be played at the tournament this week, including basketball, volleyball, and golf. Other competitions include knowledge bowl, chess, and Rocket League.

Multiple speakers welcomed competitors following dinner, including Rapid City Mayor Jason Salamun and Lakota Nation Invitational Director Bryan Brewer. Brewer gave a passionate speech, remarking how Rapid City has become more accepting of the tournament since it started nearly four decades ago…
