Shake, rattle and scroll: California gets new earthquake alert app

A mobile app that earlier this month alerted more than half a million people in Northern California in advance of two major shakes is now available for free on Chromebooks and MacOs.

The “MyShake” earthquake alert app, on Dec. 5 notified nearly 470,000 users on their mobile devices up to 15 seconds before the 7.0 quake in Humboldt County that triggered a tsunami warning along the California coast hit.
