Tennessee craft distilling darling Chattanooga Whiskey recently dropped the sixth edition in their Finishing Series, a line that we admittedly haven’t kept up with well enough. Luckily, this latest offering is a reprise of sorts of an earlier expression that we missed (the Islay Scotch Cask Finish), which sees peated expressions of Chattanooga’s unique Tennessee High Malt house style finished in a trio of peaty Islay Scotch casks. Per the distillery:
For their sixth finish, the distillers returned to one of the most famous whisky-making regions in the world: Islay, Scotland. Renowned for their rich, earthy, and smoky character, whiskies from this region utilize barley malt that is dried and smoked with peat moss native to the island – a regional tradition dating back centuries.
Finished in three types of scotch whisky casks sourced from three different distilleries, each barrel type contributes its own unique, peaty character to the blend. “This finishing concept was first introduced as Batch 033 in our Experimental Single Batch Series. Despite its Scottish leanings, that original eight-barrel batch quickly became a cult favorite amongst our diehard fans, and was even voted as the best whiskey from Tennessee (International Wine & Spirit Competition). For those who love smoky whiskeys, this one hit the mark.” – Grant McCracken, Founding Distiller…
